Many teens shop there trying to be "different" and "unique" Unfortunately many people who shop there think spending $60 on a pair of pants at Hot Topic makes you "rebellious" and "unique" yet spending that much money on a pair of pants at Abercrombie, Hollister or any other "preppy" store makes you a "mindless conformist" Their logic is also completely flawed in the fact that because Hot Topic's prices are somewhat low (well compared to many mall stores) and many teens have an urge to be "different" many teenagers shop there, thus making it the same "clone-wear" that people who wear "trendy" labels are classified as. So basically what I'm trying to say is, wear what you think is cool and don't judge others on what they choose to wear. If you think your any more original (or better as some people think) wearing X brand instead of Y brand then your only fooling yourself and making yourself look arrogant.

Prep/Goth/Punk/Skater etc... there all just labels. Be who YOU want to be, and respect those who choose to be different then you.

This is a store to which people can find t-shirts, sweaters, hats, basically all attire that may have a faviorte band or funny saying. I personally go there, and I do not believe that I am trying to rebel against anything. And if I was trying to, to what would I be, society in itself, you could say the same thing about Pacific sunwear, Ecko, or any clothing store, they could all be considered rebelling against something. But I just want a shirt with my faviorte band's name on it.

Let's go to Hot Topic, and not rebel against anything, but rather buy some clothing articles, like we would in any other clothing store.

The second Iraqi war, gay marriage, abortion, etc. 2: (Noun) A store in various malls that sells clothes and tries to target various countercultures (I.E. Goth, Punk, Metalhead, Emo). Over the past few years, Hot Topic has gotten a reputation of forgetting it's core demographic (Urban countercultureists from ages 16-25, who are into music groups that are condisered to be too bizzare and raw to go mainstream, i.e. Danzig, Inkubus Sukkubus, The Casualties) in order to appeal to a new demographic (Suburban youths, ages 11-15, into such musical groups as AFI, Evanescence, Linkin Park who have toned down sounds in their various genres and received mainstream appeal). 3: (Adjective) Something that's not genuine, something mass produced and made to look like it's a part of a counterculture movement. I hope the second definition is "Fair and Balanced" enough.

Hot Topic is considered a poser store because there are poser peoples that shop there sometimes, and also because it's different. Hot Topic is a place that sells clothing that, okay, doesn't exactly make you different. But it looks cool and there are people who agree with me, is that really so hard to just shut up about and respect? Sorry if it's too much to ask. But what always pisses me off is when there are all these popular Abercrombie / Hollister people who say "Hot Topic sucks" and then go out and buy stuff there behind your back. Just realize that every store has people that shop there who are cool, and people who are just plain stupid. Honestly, Hot Topic has nice, helpful people who work there, not uberly tall platinum-blond girls with short-short miniskirts who stare at you and sigh because you're not fashionable enough. I tried going into Hot Topic one day not dressed in my usual "gothic" clothing, and they still came up to me and we talked and laughed and stuff. Maybe someday everyone in the world will learn to just live with the fact that in this world, there are people with different interests and beliefs than you. Maybe people will learn to live with and respect that.

I went shopping at Hot Topic yesterday, and they have a brand new pair of combat boots that majorly kicks ass.

And it more often than not, smells good. To sum up everything I just said: Hot Topic is no more "punk" than Old Navy. They have some cool stuff, and some lame crap just like every other store. Dorks call it a poser store because they are insecure and want to feel better about themselves. And hope by saying that, others will think they are more hardcore.

Recently made popular via certain pop vocalists and teenage magazines, Hot Topic has gained the lable of being a "poseur store" by a number of people. Varying degrees of people shop there, including "preps," "gawths," or those just simply interested in buying a pair of pants because they (ghasp shock horror) happen to like them. Also, generally expensive and over-priced for poorly-made clothing which fades (badly) in the wash, but a decent alternative for those of the younger generation who don't have a thrift store around or another clothing store which caters to those not interested in wearing clothing that make them look like a slut. Note: Although many people who shop there truely do think they're flipping the birdie to the system, please remember there are also people who shop there because they happen to like the clothing.

Just read this. actually listen to an opinion...Hot Topic. one of the best stores ever. but...I hate people who go there just to "fit in by standing out" it's a contradiction which is completely and udderly stupid. For one thing no one even knows the definition of "Gothic" or "Prep" and why we use these words is above me. It happens to be right across Hollister where popular and "preppy" girls go and buy bikinis where the less material there is the more it costs. Hot Topic is my choice of the two, and the labels will fly. People say they hate labels and yet they use them too. We'll survive.
